Google Merchant Center Promotions Update – Google Wallet & Safari Support

Today, I want to share an interesting update I came across in Google Merchant Center promotions. This feature wasn’t officially announced, but it was discovered by Gabriel Benadeti, who kindly shared a screenshot. After investigating the matter myself, I noticed some exciting additions worth discussing.

A New Marketing Method – Google Wallet

When you head into Google Merchant Center → Promotions → Add Promotion, you’ll now see a new option under marketing methods: Google Wallet.

This means that promotions can now be tied to Google Wallet, although there is currently limited documentation from Google on how this will work in practice. It should behave similarly to how promotions currently appear in Chrome.

For example, with Chrome, you may see a pop-up in the top right corner of the browser when a valid promotion is detected on a website or product page. It would make sense that Google Wallet will highlight promotions in a similar way when users are about to purchase from a merchant’s site.

Of course, we’ll need to see this in action to know for sure, so if anyone has already spotted it live, feel free to share screenshots or even a short video so we can all better understand how it works.

New Promotional Features in Google Merchant Center

Safari Support Now Added

While exploring this update, I also noticed something else: Safari browsers are now listed as supported.

Chrome support for promotions was added last year, but Safari wasn’t mentioned until now. At the time of writing, the Merchant Center interface indicates that Safari is included, but I don’t yet see it reflected in the promotional details. That likely means it’s in the process of being rolled out.

This is particularly significant, as Safari users account for a substantial share of mobile shoppers. Expanding promotion visibility beyond Chrome should help merchants capture a wider audience.

Final Thoughts

  • Google Wallet has been added as a new promotional target in Merchant Center.
  • Safari support joins Chrome in delivering promotional notifications.

Both updates show Google is continuing to expand the ways promotions reach shoppers. Although the details are still unclear, this is a welcome development for merchants seeking to maximize the visibility of their offers.

I’ll be keeping an eye on this to see how the rollout evolves. If you’ve noticed these features live on your own account, please reach out, I’d love to share your findings with the community.
