If you’ve logged into Google Merchant Center recently and noticed a chunk of your products flagged with a “Product Page Unavailable” error, don’t panic. I’ve seen this come up a lot with our clients at FeedArmy, and nine times out of ten, it has nothing to do with your website.
Let me walk you through exactly what’s going on and how to fix it.
What Does “Product Page Unavailable” Actually Mean?
Here’s the thing, despite the name, this error usually isn’t about your product pages being down or broken. What’s actually happening is that Google’s bot is having trouble connecting to your website. This can happen for several reasons: DNS issues on Google’s end, crawling errors, or simply their bot timing out when trying to reach your site.
The key thing to look at is the scale of the problem. If around 10% of your products are affected, that’s almost certainly a Google-side issue. If all of your products are flagged, then yes, it’s worth investigating whether something is wrong with your website. But for most people reading this, it’ll be the former.
Why This Is a Big Deal for Your Ads
Before I get into the fix, I want to be upfront about something: this error will cause your Google Ads to stop running for those affected products. So even though the problem is on Google’s end, the impact on your business is very real. That’s why it’s important to address it quickly rather than wait and see if it resolves itself.
How to Fix It — Step by Step
Here’s the process I recommend:
- Go to the “Needs Attention” tab in Google Merchant Center. This is where you’ll see all your flagged products. Click the “Product page unavailable” issue, then click the “View Products” button.
- Click on any one of the affected products. You don’t need to go through each product individually, just pick one. This will open the product details page.
- Click “Review and Fix” in the top right corner. This takes you to the needs attention tab for that specific product.
- Scroll down until you see “Request Website Check.” Click it, then confirm the request.
That’s genuinely it. Within 24 hours, the flagged products should be approved and your ads should be back up and running.
The Frustrating Part
I won’t sugarcoat it, this issue tends to come back. Sometimes it reappears the very next day. It’s one of those recurring annoyances that unfortunately doesn’t have a permanent fix on your end, since the root cause is on Google’s side.
My recommendation if this keeps happening: reach out to Google Support and submit feedback about the issue. The more merchants flag it, the more pressure there is for Google to address it properly. In the meantime, keep an eye on your Merchant Center account and run through the steps above whenever it pops up.
